Uber reportedly covered up a massive cyberattack that exposed the personal data of 57 million customers and drivers. The company’s chief security officer, Joe Sullivan, was fired this week. The October 2016 hack exposed email addresses and phone numbers of around 50 million Uber customers worldwide, the company told Bloomberg. Around 600,000 drivers license numbers were also compromised in the cyberattack. According to Bloomberg, Uber “paid hackers $100,000 to delete the data and keep the breach quiet.” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company is “changing the way we do business” as a result of the incident, adding: “None of this should have happened, and I will not make excuses for it.”
