The U.S. military failed a second ballistic missile defense test Wednesday morning in Hawaii, according to administration officials. The missile that launched from land “failed to intercept an incoming target launched from an aircraft.” The Pentagon is not publicly confirming the failure of the test due to “sensitivities surrounding North Korea’s participation in the upcoming Olympic Games.” The missile tested is still currently in development, and represents an important defense mechanism against intercontinental ballistic missiles—which Kim Jong Un has been attempting to develop.
