Vice President Mike Pence told The Washington Post that the United States and South Korea have “agreed on terms for further engagement” with North Korea. On his trip back from the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Pyeongchang, Pence said he had two “substantive conversations” with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, and explained the engagement would begin with South Koreans and the United States would follow. While American sanctions will continue on the North Korean regime, the U.S. is “now willing to sit down and talk” with North Korea. He said that “the maximum pressure campaign is going to continue and intensify. But if you want to talk, we’ll talk.”
