John McEntee, the longtime “body man” for President Donald Trump who was fired from the White House Monday, is reportedly under investigation for problems related to his finances, according to reports from CNN and The Wall Street Journal. The CNN report claims that McEntee was fired and promptly escorted off the White House grounds because the Department of Homeland Security is investigating him for “serious financial crimes.” The Journal report says that McEntee was denied a security clearance because of financial problems connected to online gambling and mishandling of his taxes—issues the Secret Service is investigating. Despite McEntee’s White House departure and his alleged financial issues, he’s been named senior adviser for campaign operations in Trump’s 2020 reelection bid, according to a campaign release issued Tuesday. This comes amid a number of recent Trump administration departures, from former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Rob Porter—who also had security clearance issues. Porter left the White House amid allegations of domestic abuse.
