Elon Musk is a bona fide national security risk, according to a former U.S. Army lieutenant general. Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, in an op-ed for the New York Times, said that the Tesla and SpaceX chief’s links to China are worrying. “The question now is whether the incoming Trump administration will take this risk seriously,” Honoré wrote, after stating that SpaceX and its founder face federal reviews from the Air Force, the Defense Department’s Office of Inspector General and the under secretary of defense for intelligence and security for failing to provide details of Musk’s meetings with foreign leaders. Honoré said that if “deep connections” are discovered between Musk and/or China and Russia, the federal government should step in and perhaps even revoke his security clearance. “If Mr. Trump and his appointees mean what they say about getting tough on America’s adversaries, then they will act on this matter without delay,” he added. Musk’s reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
