Days after admitting that he abandoned a dead bear cub in Central Park, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told reporters that the bear wasn’t the only dead animal he picked up off the side of the road in recent years. “I’ve been picking up roadkill my whole life,” Kennedy told reporters in an Albany courthouse. “I have a freezer full of it. A thousand cubic-foot freezer.” The independent presidential candidate was in court to testify in a lawsuit brought by the Democratic Party-aligned Clear Choice PAC, which is attempting to keep him off the ballot in New York state. A spokesperson for the independent presidential candidate later confirmed to the Associated Press that the freezer was actually only 21 cubic feet and kept in his Westchester County home. Kennedy, an avid falconer, used the carrion to feed his birds—but he no longer owns it, his spokesperson said. On Sunday, Kennedy posted a bizarre video on social media owning up to dumping the bear cub’s carcass in Manhattan in 2014—an event that was extensively covered by local news after it frightened dog walkers in Central Park the next morning. The New Yorker later published more details of the account, including a photo of Kennedy posing with the dead bear.
