Richard Swift, Former Member of The Shins, Dies at 41

Musician Richard Swift, who played in indie bands The Shins and The Black Keys, died at 41 after being hospitalized with a “serious medical condition.” The New York Daily News reports that Swift was a “singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist” who played with The Shins from 2011 to 2016. He also played for The Arcs, The Black Keys, the Pretenders, The Barr Brothers, and Ray LaMontagne. A post on his Facebook page announcing his death read, “And all the angels sing ‘Que Sera Sera.’” Black Keys founder Dan Auerbach paid tribute to Swift on Instagram, writing, “Today the world lost one of the most talented musicians I know. He’s now with his Mom and Sister. I will miss you my friend.” Swift had a GoFundMe page to help pay for his undisclosed medical condition, which ended up raising more than $87,000. According to an update on the page last week, Swift had been “making progress” in his treatment.
