Pop icon Rihanna has filed a lawsuit against her father for trademark violation, alleging that he’s using her fame and Fenty brand for his own personal gain, according to a Tuesday report from The Blast. The lawsuit reportedly claims that Ronald Fenty and his business partner, Moses Perkins, founded an entertainment company called Fenty Entertainment and have been soliciting clients by pretending to be her agents. TMZ reports that Rihanna has trademarked the word “Fenty” for a number of retail purposes. “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf,” the lawsuit reportedly says, alleging that her father tried to book a $15 million tour and two $400,000 concerts by improperly leveraging her brand. In 2018, The Blast notes, Rihanna’s father tried unsuccessfully to trademark the word “Fenty,” now synonymous with Rihanna’s cosmetics and apparel line, for his boutique hotels. The suit reportedly seeks an injunction, and an unspecified damages payment.
