The Guardian reports that vicious riots that erupted in response to a lethal police shooting have spread from Tottenham, in the north part of the city, to nearby Enfield and to Brixton, a borough south of the Thames River. Violence continued in the wee hours of the morning Monday, with reports of looting, stabbing, and mass pursuit of rioters by the police. On Sunday, 55 people were arrested after the riots in Tottenham and dozens of police officers were injured. Mark Duggan, a 29-year-old father of four, was shot fatally by police on Saturday during a firearms-control operation, and rioters are demanding justice.
