RIP Tinkerbell, Paris Hilton’s Pooch and Purse-Dweller

Dog Gone

Tinkerbell, one of reality TV’s first canine stars and much beloved by her owner, has died. And she was much more than just a purse accessory.

On Tuesday afternoon, world-famous heir/entrepreneur/DJ Paris Hilton announced on Facebook and Instagram that her dog Tinkerbell had passed away at 14-years-old due to old age.

That’s about 72 in doggy years.

According to IMDB, the pooch of Paris was adopted in 2002 from the online breeding company Texas Teacups.

Apparently Hilton was inspired to bring a chihuahua into her life after seeing Legally Blonde, where lawyer-hopeful Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) played shepherd to a chihuahua by the name of Bruiser.

At the height of her pop culture relevance, frequently making Page Six and starring in The Simple Life alongside Nicole Richie, Hilton was a style icon.

Her prestige and fame trickled down to Tinkerbell, who became a major part of Hilton’s image.

Tink often indulged in the lavish lifestyle the two blondes partook in, enjoying backrubs just like her mommy and dressing only in the most couture of canine wear.

She also played a pivotal role on Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, helping sniff out fakers who were just on the show for reality television fame and not for true friendship.

Back in 2004, Tinkerbell momentarily went missing and Hilton offered a $5,000 reward for her dog’s safe return. She was found six days later.

It’s also arguable that Tinkerbell—often being cradled in Hilton’s arms or sitting in her lap—helped pave the way for the ubiquitous sight of other purse-bound pooches.

Just seven months ago Hilton posted a video to Instagram proving that Tinkerbell was still kicking, writing, “To everyone who keeps asking if Tinkerbell is alive. Here she is, the original queen herself!”

Hilton wrote on Facebook, “My heart is broken I am so sad & devastated … She was such a special & incredible soul. We went through so much together. I can’t believe she’s gone. I will miss her & think about her for the rest of my life. I love you Tinky, you are a Legend & will never be forgotten. #RIPTinkerbell
