Twenty-three years after starting in professional baseball, reliever Mariano Rivera took to the Yankee Stadium mound for the last time on Thursday night. Wearing his No. 42 Yankees uniform, Rivera jogged to the mound to the tune of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and pitched against a batter from the Tampa Bay Rays. The crowd cheered him on with a standing ovation. Unfortunately, even Rivera couldn’t save the Yankees from defeat, and New York lost 4–0.
