Following the success of his 2024 remake of gothic horror classic Nosferatu (which The Daily Beast crowned as the best film of the year), Robert Eggers is set to direct a sequel to Jim Henson’s 1986 musical fantasy Labyrinth, according to Deadline. Starring Jennifer Connelly and the starman himself, David Bowie, Labyrinth follows a young girl’s descent into an otherworldly maze as she tries to rescue her brother from the clutches of the Goblin King. While the sequel’s details are currently under wraps, Deadline reports that Eggers is working on the script with frequent collaborator Sjón, who co-wrote his 2022 viking epic The Northman, and that the deal was closed with TriStar Pictures. Henson’s children, Brian and Lisa Henson, are also slated to executive produce and produce the new sequel respectively. The news comes just hours after Nosferatu was nominated for four Oscars in the Cinematography, Costume Design, Production Design and Makeup and Hairstyling categories.
