Roger Stone, President Trump’s former informal campaign adviser and longtime ally, admitted late Friday that he “probably” is the unnamed individual mentioned in special counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment against Russian intelligence officers. Stone had earlier denied that he was the unnamed person who made contact online with a Twitter account allegedly manned by Russian agents and  “who was in regular contact with senior members of the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump.” Speaking to CNN late Friday, Stone said he’d initially distanced himself from the indictment because he “didn’t understand the earlier reference.” He went on to downplay the significance of his “innocuous” interaction with an entity called Guccifer 2.0, who presented himself as a Russian hacker but was revealed by The Daily Beast to be a front for Russian intelligence. Mueller’s latest indictment against 12 Russians is “not a conviction,” Stone told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “Even Russian intelligence agents in the U.S. have a presumption of innocence until they’re proven guilty,” he said.
