Roger Stone’s staff responded to the FBI’s raid and arrest of Stone early Friday morning via Instagram, posting a photo of Stone with the banner “Who framed Roger Stone?” The longtime Trump confidant was charged with seven counts, including one count obstruction of justice, five counts of false statements, and one count witness-tampering. Stone's staff captioned the cheeky photo: “This morning's news is deeply saddening. Robert Mueller's early morning raid was straight out of the gestapo's playbook. We must fight for Roger Stone... now more than ever. If they can do this to Roger... they are coming for us next!” Stone said on Monday that he expected to be indicted by the special counsel. “I think it is possible that I will be framed, in which case I will expose both illegal surveillance on me and gross prosecutorial misconduct by a number of lawyers working for Mueller.”

Jay Sekulow, legal counsel to President Trump, released a statement responding to Stone’s arrest, pointing out that the charges don't allege collusion with Russia. “The indictment today does not allege Russian collusion by Roger Stone or anyone else,” Sekulow wrote. “Rather, the indictment focuses on alleged false statements Mr. Stone made to Congress.” Stone is now the sixth Trump associate charged in the Russia investigation, including his former lawyer Michael Cohen who was recently sentenced to three years in prison for lying to Congress, among other crimes. Stone's lawyer issued a statement from his client regarding the arrest, “this country is literally run by a rogue prosecutor who has more power than the president," Stone reportedly said.
