It's been a bloody weekend in Benghazi after fighting broke out Friday between Islamic militants and a rogue retired general, Khalifa Hifter. 70 people are dead and 141 are injured after Hifter began using government aircrafts and troops in an unauthorized campaign. Libya's central government has described the uprising as a coup and denounced Hifter for using the violence to “pursue personal gains or turn against the state legitimacy.” In 2011, the start of the uprising against the former dictator Moammar Gadhafi began in Benghazi. The city was also the site of the September 11, 2012 attack on the American diplomatic mission that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.
