The final resting place of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been destroyed in the battle between security forces and Islamic militants near Tikrit, the Associated Press reported Sunday. Sunni residents said last year they had relocated Saddam’s body, but AP footage shows the mausoleum nearly leveled as government troops and Iranian-backed Shiite militia fight to retake the city. Images of Saddam have been replaced with Shiite militia flags and images of militia leaders such as Iranian General Qasem Suleimani. “The IS militants set an ambush for us by planting bombs around” the tomb, said Capt. Yasser Nu’ma, an official with the Shiite militias.
