Sarah Palin: Couric’s 2008 Newspaper Question Was ‘Fair’

Sarah Palin has finally admitted that Katie Couric’s question about which newspapers she reads was entirely “fair.”

“I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media,” Palin told Couric in 2008, shortly after being picked as John McCain’s running mate. Pressed further to name specific publications, the former Alaska governor said: “All of them. Any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.”

For the past seven years, that awkward moment had been cited by many on the right, including Palin herself, as an example of media bias and condecension toward conservative politicians. But in an interview this week with CBS Sunday Morning, the former vice-presidential candidate conceded that it was a “fair” question.

“I had a crappy answer,” she added.

“I didn’t like, though, the way that, forever then in these seven years, that interview has kind of been stamped on my forehead as, ‘She’s an idiot,'” she concluded. “I just think, in the context of the whole ball of wax that day—or two days—of an interview and editing, it wasn’t real fun.”
