The creators of spooky new Netflix adaptation The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina might get a fright when they open their mail this week: The Satanic Temple is threatening to sue over what it claims is a copyrighted statue of an evil deity that’s included as a prop on the show. On Sunday, Satanic Temple co-founder Lucien Greaves tweeted the group would be “taking legal action” against Netflix for “appropriating” its copyrighted monument design of Satanic deity Baphomet. Greaves told the San Francisco Chronicle that the group’s lawyer had sent a letter to Netflix. The Baphomet statue is featured prominently at Sabrina’s witchcraft school. “It’s deeply problematic to us,” said Greaves. “[But] even if that wasn’t the case, we’d be obligated to make a copyright claim because that’s how copyright works.”
