Political prisoners in Saudi Arabia are regularly starved and tortured, according to an exclusive report by the Guardian. Leaked medical reports said to be prepared for Saudi ruler King Salman seen by the paper show evidence of torture, including burns, cuts and starvation. The medical reports were prepared as part of a plan to give at least some of the political prisoners suffering the most severe health issues political pardons, according to the paper. The Saudi kingdom has long denied torturing its prisoners, despite recent reports that some of its female prisoners were subject to electric shock and lashings while in custody. The comments on the leaked reports seen by the Guardian include: “The patient suffers from severe weight loss with continuous bloody vomiting. There are also a number of wounds and bruises scattered in several areas of the body.” Another comment states: “The patient cannot move at all due to wounds in both legs as well as severe weakness in the body due to malnutrition and lack of fluids.”
