The dorky teen star turned Inception hero has essentially avoided becoming a tabloid target with his dating life. But this week, Scarlett Johansson changed that. The 30-year-old actor who made hearts melt in 500 Days of Summer reportedly won over the 26-year-old divorcee, who has been the target of nude photo leaks of late. The pair were reportedly spotted getting dinner in SoHo in July and then kissing elsewhere in New York in September, according to Us Weekly. Though an insider told the magazine that the two have been discussing a project for some time, one said, “It’s gone beyond that now." However, another Johansson source insisted that there’s “nothing serious” going on between them.

Life may have imitated art for Johansson and her He’s Just Not That Into You co-star Bradley Cooper. In the 2009 romantic comedy, Cooper played a married man madly in love with Johansson’s character, leading him to cheat on his wife (Jennifer Connelly). In September 2011, Johansson and Cooper were reportedly at Provocateur nightclub in New York. Though a rep for Johansson said the former on-screen couple are “just friends and have been for years,” an eyewitness told Life & Style magazine that “after some drinks [Cooper] turned his attention to Scarlett… The duo were hand in hand and more than flirty by the end of the night!"

Though rumors had been stirring since January, when the paparazzi snapped a photo of Johansson and 50-year-old Sean Penn, nearly twice her age, enjoying lunch in L.A. in March 2011—with her leg resting on his thigh under the table—the jig was up. Johansson had filed for divorced from Ryan Reynolds in December 2010 and Penn had just finalized his divorce from Robin Wright Penn in July. Then, they were seen jogging together, taking a trip to Cabo San Lucas, and holding hands at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in May. But speculation began that they were no longer an item when Johansson didn’t join Penn for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Tree of Life. Soon thereafter, it was reported that the couple split and an insider told Us Weekly it was because Penn didn’t want anything “serious.”

In the spring of 2007, a then-22-year-old Johansson and a then-30-year-old Ryan Reynolds, who had just ended his engagement with Alanis Morissette, were spotted together in New York. A year later, they got engaged and on Sept. 27, 2008, they quietly married in British Columbia. Though Reynolds and Johansson remained a very private couple, just over two years into their marriage they announced they were getting a divorce “after long and careful consideration on both our parts,” they said in a statement. “We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it.” Both Johansson and Reynolds have remained respectful since their split. This past May, Reynolds, who’s since been linked to Sandra Bullock and Blake Lively, told Details, “Anyone who gets divorced goes through a lot of pain, but you come out of it. I'm not out of it yet. At all. But I sense that as I do come through it, there's optimism.” And earlier this month, Johansson refused to comment on why their marriage ended. "That question is too personal,” she said. “I will only tell you this: I can be overcritical—with myself and with other people.”

Shortly after then-25-year-old Justin Timberlake ended his three-and-a-half year relationship with Cameron Diaz in early 2007, reports surfaced that then 22-year-old Scarlett Johansson was part of the problem. The final straw, a source told Us Weekly, was Timberlake handpicking Johansson to star as his love interest in his music video, “What Goes Around… Comes Around,” which included an intense make-out scene. And it wasn’t the first time Johansson dated one of Diaz’s exes—she also hooked up with Jared Leto shortly after the Charlie’s Angels star did. Johansson was soon spotted with Timberlake at the after-party for his film Alpha Dog and at a few parties thereafter. At the Grammys in February 2007, Johansson told E!, “We have a lot of friends in common, and Justin's a sweetheart… I think when two people are single and are seen together, it's immediately like a crazy feeding frenzy.” Though nothing seemed to come of their alleged fling—with Timberlake soon meeting Jessica Biel and Johansson soon meeting Reynolds—rumors flared up again this past September when both were single. They were seen at Manhattan nightclub 1Oak, then grabbing pizza in the wee hours of the morning, after which, Timberlake allegedly returned to Johansson’s apartment, according to Us Weekly, which their reps denied.

In 2006, Scarlett Johansson and bygone heartthrob Josh Hartnett co-starred in the neo-noir murder mystery Black Dahlia about the real-life murder of an aspiring actress in the 1940s. Johansson, 21 at the time, publicly confirmed what many of the gossip rags had already suspected: she and Hartnett were dating. “Josh is very sweet,” she told Allure magazine. “He’s a good boy. A great person. I’m very lucky and I’m very happy.” This Hollywood romance only lasted about a year though, with the two celebs’ schedules reportedly getting in the way of their relationship.

Considering Derek Jeter is the biggest playboy in all of sports, it’s no surprise the New York Yankees’ shortstop was seen with a then-20-year-old Scarlett Johansson at an L.A. restaurant for Microsoft’s Christmas party in December 2004. “I didn't see any kissing,” a source told the New York Daily News. “But they were very close and really flirting." Later, the pair reportedly left together.

In the summer of 2004, Johansson was seen having drinks at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont with Jared Leto which, naturally, started a buzz. But the rumor mill really began to churn when Scarlett invited the actor and musician to her extravagant “un-birthday” party in 2004. According to “onlookers” ScarJo was seen sitting on Leto’s lap while he stroked her leg. The two split but Leto resurfaced shortly after Johansson married actor Ryan Reynolds, sparking rumors that the two were having an affair.

Not long after she split from Jared Leto, Johansson was seen canoodling with actor Patrick Wilson. At the time, Wilson was 30 and Scarlett only 19 and an unnamed source told People magazine the two were “dating, but not exclusively.”

We may never know whether or not Scarlett Johansson really had sex with Benicio del Toro in a Chateau Marmont elevator following the 2004 Oscars, but we can guess. Johansson brushed off the story as a joke, insisting that “if you’ve ever been to the Chateau Marmont elevator, you’ll know you can barely stand, let alone do anything like that.” Del Toro, on the other hand definitely didn’t deny it. When questioned about the alleged tryst by Esquire, the actor said, “Did I ever have sex in an elevator with Scarlett Johansson after an awards show? I kind of like, you know, I, well. I don’t know. Let’s leave that to somebody’s imagination. Let’s not promote it. I’m sure it has happened before. It might not be the last time either.”

Apparently Scarlett Johannson’s string of high-profile boyfriends goes all the way back to high school. At the Professional Children’s School in New York, Johansson dated future Steel Train band member Jack Antonoff. But while Scarlett was out making movies and racking up a list of ex-boyfriends in the years following graduation, Antonoff continued to pine away for his high-school sweetheart, writing the song “Better Love” with such references to the actress as “Fame swept her off her feet/she sees nothing she did before… Hey, Scarlett you’re not the same,” and “scars are in her name/and she scars me in blame.” While Johansson’s publicist insists the relationship was only a senior-year fling, Antonoff maintains that the two dated throughout high school. Either way, she clearly made an impression on the budding musician.
