Scientists: ‘Doomsday Clock’ Inches Closer to Apocalypse

The so-called “Doomsday Clock” inched closer to the apocalypse, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists announced Thursday. The closer the minute-hand is to midnight, the closer the planet is to complete destruction. The organization says the clock, which now stands at 2.5 minutes until midnight, “conveys how close we are to destroying our civilization with dangerous technologies of our own making.” It was five minutes from midnight in 2014 and three minutes from midnight in 2015. The Bulletin said it was basing its decision off of President Donald Trump’s comments about nuclear weapons and climate change, among other items including “strident nationalism worldwide.”
