Sen. George McGovern, the Democratic nominee for president in 1972, died Sunday morning at age 90, according to a family spokesman. The senator from South Dakota died in a Sioux Falls hospice at 5:15 a.m. McGovern served three terms in the United States Senate and ran for president three times, in 1968 and 1984 as well as in 1972. He lost to Nixon in what is recognized as one of the largest electoral landslides ever.
