Sheriff: 5 Killed in Crash Fleeing Border Patrol in Texas

Five people have died after an SUV crashed while fleeing from Customs and Border Patrol agents in Big Wells, Texas on Sunday. The driver was a known human smuggler, according to Dimmet County Sheriff Marion Boyd, who said that a total of 14 people were inside the van when it crashed while traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The SUV lost control, overturned, and ejected 12 of its passengers. Four people died at the scene and a fifth died at the hospital. The driver and one passenger, both of whom are believed by authorities to be U.S. citizens, are in police custody.
