Sinclair Broadcast Group used its official Twitter account on Wednesday evening to “take a moment and address some concerns” regarding the latest “commentary” segment from former Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn that the company forced the approximately 200 local news stations it owns to run this week. “The opinions expressed in this segment do not reflect the views of Sinclair Broadcast Group,” the statement read. “When Boris’s segments are aired on our stations, they are labeled clearly as commentary. We also offer our stations reporting from the Beltway and beyond that are not partisan or bias in any way.” In the “must-run” piece, Epshteyn told viewers, “Dozens of migrants attacked U.S. border enforcement by throwing rocks and bottles. Ultimately, American authorities had to use tear gas to stop the attacks” and echoed Trump by declaring, “The fact of the matter is that this is an attempted invasion of our country, period.” He also attacked Democratic lawmakers for criticizing Trump and Border Patrol agents. Sinclair, which has come under harsh scrutiny from its own anchors for this type of content, added, “Above all, we are committed to fair, unbiased journalism across our stations nationwide and are truly honored to serve our communities. Local news always comes first.” The tweet included a link where viewers can summit their concerns.
