“In the wake of what is being called a political victory, Democratic leaders have cautioned their rank and file not to gloat or celebrate the outcome excessively,” Colin Jost said of the negotiations that ended without Congress giving President Trump his wall during Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” this week. Then he introduced Alex Moffat’s Chuck Schumer and Kate McKinnon’s Nancy Pelosi to comment.
“What is there to gloat about? I mean the president is a very tough negotiator,” Schumer said, trying to stifle his smile.
“We are devastated with the outcome,” Pelosi added through clenched teeth.

But they could only hold their glee in for so long. “We wanted something sure, but he gave us everything!” Schumer exclaimed as Pelosi did her sarcastic sideways clap in the president’s direction.
“I can only imagine what Ann Coulter is saying about it, let’s have a look,” Schumer added, reading this real quote from the right-wing pundit and former Trump supporter off his phone: “The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot.” He remarked, “Well, that’s not very nice, I thought she liked him.”
“That is shocking. I was shocked when I printed that out this morning,” Pelosi said, holding up a framed copy of the now infamous quote.
As Jost put it, “Now that seems like gloating.”
