Disgraced anti-trafficking leader Somaly Mam is banned from ever operating under another NGO in Camobia, according the Cambodian Council of Ministers spokesman. Mam stepped down from the Somaly Mam Foundation after a Newsweek expose revealed that Mam had fabricated her backstory as a sex slave and coached girls to lie about their own lives to attract millions in donations. “I think that she is not going to run an NGO again,” the spokesman said. “We are not going to allow her to run this kind of activity again.” Mam revealed last month that she intends to revive her career in the anti-trafficking sector and has hired a celebrity publicist for a campaign questioning the Newsweek piece.
