In comments from Pyongyang on Wednesday morning Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke of his hope that the U.S. and North Korea can work together for peace during his trip to the once-forbidding country, where it’s been reported that three Americans who are imprisoned there will be released. South Korean news agency Yonhap reported the release will come Wednesday as an apparent goodwill gesture ahead of the expected meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the coming weeks. Speaking ahead of the anticipated release, Pompeo said: “For decades, we have been adversaries. We are hopeful that we can work together to resolve this conflict, take away threats to the world, and make your country have all the opportunities your people so richly deserve.” The Daily Beast first reported early Tuesday that Pompeo was traveling to North Korea in part to secure the prisoners’ release.
