Over 11,000 cases of cholera have been reported in South Sudan, which is facing “the longest, most widespread and most deadly cholera outbreak” since 2011, according to the United Nations. The outbreak began one year ago and since has killed 190 people. When left untreated, cholera can result in death through dehydration. Civil war has displaced two million people within South Sudan. The World Health Organization says cases have increased in 2017, as those who are displaced often do not have access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation.
