Dressing up during that short period of time between winter and spring can be unpredictable. You never know if it’s going to be 75 and sunny, or pouring rain. The only way to beat the odds is to plan ahead and strategically layer. We spoke to some stylish New Yorkers about how they transition their wardrobes for spring.
Alexa, Chelsea: "I start wearing things that are fun and fashionable, and leave functionality behind."

"I layer. I'm from LA, I have a lot of spring clothes so I just top those up."

Caroline: "I always wear my leather jacket and roll up my jeans up."
Asiah: "I wear boots and leather year round. I wear cropped tops and shorts with tights in the spring."

"I don't like dressing in the winter. I just run around in the rain, but in summer clothes. I don't have a coat or wear many layers. I just take lots of cabs."

"It's all about adding and taking away layers."

"Jewelry is universal. I'm gonna wear this in the summer, winter, spring, and fall."

"All you have to do is wear beautiful spring colors with a great hat. If you're gonna do black, which is stunning, you must have a white blouse on. There has to be some glitzy glimmer with a slack. Leave your jacket open with a little froufrou going down, some kind of ruffles. You just have to work it! You need to get a big black linen hat. It's a must. You also need a Longchamp bag, which is fabulously gorgeous. A little makeup goes a long way."

“All of my clothes are in a specific color range: navys, khakis, greens and greys, which transition into all seasons. Most are classic pieces and lightweight including my jacket and can be easily layered. I usually only change my shoes per season: boots for the winter, sneakers for spring, and so on.”

"I whipped out my denim mini, but can't go sans tights just yet. I'm still clinging on to my boots and gloves as it's not quite warm enough for exposed digits just yet! And my cropped shearling jacket is the perfect coat to usher in the beginning of NYC spring."

"I keep staple and timeless pieces in my wardrobe--just things that I know work. I get rid of things that don't work, like a wardrobe spring cleaning. That's how I make sure that I have the right pieces for the right seasons. I love color! The world is full of color and so I incorporate it in my style."

"I don't know what I do."

“In my personal style, I tend to wear a lot of neutrals. Like most New Yorkers, I love all black. In the spring, I add cream or white to play off of a neutral color pallet, but with a warmer feeling.”

"Style-wise, I skate, so that's where my style comes from. Besides wearing less clothing, I try to wear more color. Winter is so gloomy and depressing, so I try to enhance my color schemes during spring. I love everything about wearing color."

"The very first step to transitioning from winter to spring is shedding off the coat, hence the jacket and shawl. It's in the fabric. You have to wear a lightweight wool. For me, style is easy: you just have to figure out the weather and take it from there."

“I try to add in some pops of color while staying semi-layered so I can transition from warm days to cooler nights.”

"I usually wear light button-ups. I love hoodies! I like the younger girl style, like super-cute and colorful."

"I love spring dresses! I pair them with a heavier layer. The trick is all in how you display your clothes in your closet. I organized it so I can see everything. It makes getting dressed fun. It's easier to find the right scarf to go with my dress."

"I'd say, take a layer off and put on a shade lighter."

"I wear lots of layers and black. It's my favorite color. Details make the outfit, so you need a pop of something."

"I tend to keep the same boots. I swap out pants for skirts and just go for lighter jackets. I go for suede instead of leather jackets. I like brighter colors and more patterns in the spring. I tend to go for lighter blues like periwinkle and baby blue. I also love orange and yellow hues. Brown is an awesome transition color between winter and spring, because it still feels very fresh."

"I try to wear something with a hoodie so I'm insulated. It depends on the weather. If it's raining, I'll wear a bright raincoat. On warmer days, I wear a denim jacket."
