After Wearing SPY’s HD+ Sunglasses, I Don’t Want to Go Back to A Blueless Lens

Whole Blue World

They feel great and look great — but looking through them is the best part.

Last week, I was in California — first in Los Angeles and later in Newport Beach (yes, I had a frozen banana). And during that, I felt like I spent more time in the sun than I’d spent since late last year here in New York City. But I was lucky — following up on a story I’d written in February, SPY had sent me a few pairs of sunglasses to test, and those sunglasses accompanied me through my trip.

I was running around with SPY’s Syndicates — equipped with their proprietary HD+ lenses — wrapped around my face, and I really enjoyed what they did to the world around me. Aside from the 100% UV protection and polycarbonate and anti-reflective coating lens (or as you might see it online, ARC lens) in many higher end sunglasses, I was impressed with the weight of the frame. It was just substantial enough to let me know I’m holding quality sunglasses and yet light enough that it certainly didn’t hinder my running, walking, or backseat-open-window-gazing. I easily forgot that I was wearing the pair as the lens covered my entire view. And it certainly made me feel much more attractive.

And it made everything very blue — the crispness of city streets and beachfront trees really makes it an experience to wear these. SPY sent me the $65 Cooler sunglasses, too, to demonstrate the difference between their higher-functioning HD+ lens and the, well, non-HD+ lens. And there’s a noticeable difference — which I’d expect for the appropriate investment. You really do get a bluer, crisper view through the HD+, and I don’t want to wear sunglasses without it now. If you’re looking to upgrade your sunglasses as we creep ever closer to sunnier days, I would heavily recommend you give SPY’s HD+ collection a shot.
