After pretty much universal ridicule in the week since its announcement, Starbucks will no longer have its baristas write “Race Together” on customers’ cups. Starbucks had said the cup-writing was meant to be part of a national conversation about race. Starbucks did push back on the idea that the change was in response to the ridicule, arguing that the cups were “just the catalyst” and that Starbucks will still be hosting forums on race and opening more locations in minority neighborhoods.
