“Good news. I still exist,” a bearded Stephen Colbert reassures his legions of fans at the top of this video announcing the premiere of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. After a six-month absence from the public eye, with the exception of a recent commencement speech, Colbert is back.

In sharp contrast to his bloviating Colbert Report persona, he’s much more even-toned and calm. Thankfully, he’s as funny as ever, and this clip—in which he has fun sculpting his facial moss and cavorts in Central Park to a public domain version of Green Day’s “Good Riddance”—confirms that he’s bringing his trademark weird humor to the Ed Sullivan Theatre starting September 8.

Welcome back, Stephen!
