White House senior adviser Stephen Miller has said the Trump administration would do “whatever is necessary” to get the border wall built, including shutting down the government just before Christmas. “If it comes to it, absolutely. This is a very fundamental issue. At stake is the question whether or not the United States remains a sovereign country,” Miller told Face the Nation’s Margaret Brennan on Sunday. “The Democrat party [has] a simple choice. They can either choose to fight for America’s working class or to promote illegal immigration. You can’t do both.” Miller also claimed the “ongoing crisis of illegal immigration” was spreading “misery on both sides of the border” and killing “300 Americans a week” through the smuggling of heroin. President Trump wants $5 billion in government funding for the border wall, which is at odds with Congress. In a meeting last Tuesday, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told Trump he didn’t have the votes to approve such funding in the House. “I am proud to shut down the government for border security,” Trump said during the meeting. “I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down.”
