“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Steve Bannon, President Trump's chief White House Strategist, said during a telephone call with the New York Times on Thursday. “I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country.” Bannon, one of Trump's most trusted advisors, previously served as the executive chair at Breitbart News, a far-right outlet that has frequently featured alt-right, xenophobic, racist, conspiracy theory-heavy commentary. During their first week in the White House, President Trump, Bannon, and press secretary Sean Spicer have frequently expressed their views of the "dishonest media."
