Just hours after a letter was released in her name denying a 2006 affair with Donald Trump, Stormy Daniels suggested late Tuesday that she had no idea where the statement came from. Daniels has dominated headlines since The Wall Street Journal reported this month that Trump’s lawyer paid her $130,000 before the 2016 election to keep quiet about alleged “sexual encounters” with the soon-to-be president. The White House has denied the claims, and a lawyer for Trump released a denial purportedly written by Daniels shortly after the scandal broke. Another statement went out Tuesday categorically denying an affair—but Daniels seemed unaware of its origins. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! late Tuesday, she played coy when asked why the signature on her latest statement looked nothing like her autograph. “That does not look like my signature, does it?” she said. When asked point-blank if she knew where the letter came from, she said, “I do not.” A lawyer for Daniels later issued a statement saying she did in fact sign the letter and was just “having fun” with Kimmel.
