The Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to an Arkansas abortion law that could “prevent most women” from terminating their pregnancies with medication, according to the Los Angeles Times. The appeal was filed by the Planned Parenthood Federation, which claimed that the law would leave women without access to doctors who could provide such medications. The case is now going back to the district court level, indicating that the legal fight is not over. The Times reports that the lack of dissenting opinions from the liberal justices on the court indicates that the refusal to hear the case was “based more on procedure than substance,” and states that the case will most likely reach the court once again after lower courts rule on the law’s constitutionality. Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has since pushed the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to allow the law to go into effect while the legal battle ensues.
