Prosecutors in Manhattan charged Luigi Mangione with murder on Monday night, according to New York criminal court records. Mangione, 26, was charged with murder, as well as three weapons charges for possessing a loaded firearm and a silencer, and one charge for possession of a “forged instrument.” Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, earlier on Monday, and quickly identified as the suspected shooter of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Thompson was shot and killed in an apparently “targeted” attack last week in broad daylight outside a Manhattan hotel. Mangione is also facing multiple additional charges in the Keystone State, including carrying a gun without a license, tampering with records or identification, and providing false identification to law enforcement. Mangione was jailed in Altoona following an arraignment on Monday night, and will have to be extradited back to New York to face the murder charges. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily Beast.
