The Syrian government—with Russia’s support—is ramping up its bombing of schools and hospitals in the opposition holdout of Idlib, Amnesty International said Wednesday. Based on interviews with more than a dozen residents, the human rights group said airstrikes and artillery are targeting civilian infrastructure as part of a deliberate attempt to drive out the province’s 3 million inhabitants, many of whom are already refugees. East of Idlib city, a 10-year-old boy was killed and another child was left in critical condition after a rocket landed their school’s playground. In the town of Saraqeb, controlled by an al-Qaeda-linked militia, oxygen-sucking thermobaric bombs were dropped on a blood bank, an ambulance team and volunteer first responders known as the White Helmets.
