Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has apologized for his 2003 remarks on The Howard Stern Show about Samantha Geimer, who has accused director Roman Polanski of raping her in 1977 when she was 13 years old. “When Howard brought up Polanski, I incorrectly played devil’s advocate in the debate for the sake of being provocative,” said Tarantino in a statement. “I didn’t take Ms. Geimer’s feelings into consideration and for that I am truly sorry.” Tarantino called Geimer a “party girl” in the promotional appearance on the show saying that “…[Polanski] had sex with a minor. That’s not rape. To me, when you use the word rape, you’re talking about violent, throwing them down—it’s like one of the most violent crimes in the world.” In reaction to the viral audio, Geimer told the New York Daily News on Tuesday that Tarantino “is obviously incorrect. Hopefully by now he knows that it didn’t happen that way.”
