Call it the power of the Gaga: Target agreed to stop giving money to anti-gay groups in exchange for exclusive sales rights to a special edition of Lady Gaga’s latest single, “Born This Way.” In the past, Target has donated $150,000 of corporate funds to support the political action group Minnesota Forward, that in turn supported a candidate who backed the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. In exchange for the Gaga single, the company promised to stop such donations and will give money to LGBT groups instead. Target already pays benefits to same sex-partners of employees. Target has committed $500,000 to LGBT community projects and the retailer's vice president, Dustee Tucker Jenkins, said he hopes this gesture will “demonstrate our commitment to the LGBT community.”
