There may be a lot of hate directed at her in New York City, but the rest of the America still loves Taylor Swift. Swift’s latest album, 1989, sold nearly 1.3 million copies in the U.S. in its first week, meaning it is the most popular album release in 12 years. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the album sold 1.287 million copies through Sunday. It is the highest total since Eminem’s 2002 The Eminem Show, which sold 1.322 million copies in its second week. Swift’s album is the only record by a single artist to sell more than one million copies in 2014. Disney’s Frozen also saw its soundtrack go platinum.
