Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Activates Entire National Guard for Harvey Response

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has activated all 12,000 members of the Texas National Guard to respond to Tropical Storm Harvey, which made landfall on Friday as a Category 4 hurricane. “These National Guardsmen will assist in the ongoing search and rescue effort for any Texans in immediate danger, and will be heavily involved in the extensive recovery effort in the aftermath of the storm,” according to a statement from Abbott’s office. The storm has caused severe flooding in Houston and the areas surrounding the nation’s fourth-largest city.
