A Texas police chief on Monday admitted that one of his officers opened fire on a car full of teens that was driving away, killing a 15-year-old boy. Balch Springs Police Chief Jonathan Haber said that now, after reviewing body-cam footage, it was clear that the teen was fleeing when the officer, so far unidentified, began shooting Saturday night. He initially said the teen’s car was in reverse during the shooting. “It did not meet our core values,” Haber said, of the officer’s behavior. The teen, Jordan Edwards, was leaving a party over the weekend when an officer shot him through the passenger’s side window using a rifle. The district attorney’s public-integrity unit is investigating the shooting, along with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department. The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
