The two state senators named Thursday in a Daily Beast report on sexual misconduct in Texas’ state capitol are now being urged to resign by a leading women’s organization. Annie’s List, which helps elect female Democrats in Texas, called upon Sens. Borris Miles of Houston and Carlos Uresti of San Antonio, both Democrats, to step down after the Beast reported the accounts of multiple women alleging unwanted sexual advances and forcible kissing by the men. “As we know all too well, men like Borris Miles and Carlos Uresti have been asserting themselves upon others without their permission for millenniums,” said Patsy Woods Martin, executive director of the Annie’s List. “What is new is that now we’re calling it out, taking these instances out of the shadows of shame and doubt that perpetrators, and their enablers, have foisted upon women.” Miles would not comment on the allegations made against him, while Uresti called them “erroneous” and “unfounded.”
