Newly revealed text messages suggest a pro-life congressman urged a woman with whom he had an extra-marital affair to have an abortion, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday. Shannon Edwards, a Pittsburgh forensic psychologist with whom Rep. Tim Murphy admitted last month to having had a relationship, revealed the alleged demand after the congressman’s office posted an anti-abortion statement on his Facebook in January. “And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options,” she wrote to Murphy. The congressman wrote back that his staff wrote the anti-abortion message and that he “read them and winced. I told staff don’t write any more. I will.” The incident in question turned out to be an unfounded pregnancy scare.
