Tyra Banks was critiqued for her weight gain two years ago, and since then the America’s Next Top Model host has frequently spoken out about body images. Now, she’s taking it to the next step. On Monday, Banks donned a nude body suit in the middle of New York, and said she would appear weave-free on the September 8 premiere of The Tyra Banks Show to “celebrate inner and outer beauty and owning and rocking what you’ve got.” Banks has previously been reluctant to appear in public without her long extensions, so set your TiVos now.

The former pop princess has had her ups and downs—most of which were chronicled by her ever-changing hairstyle. She memorably shaved off her glossy locks in a California salon in 2007 after complaining to the owner—who refused to do it herself—that her hair extensions were too tight. A few days later, Spears admitted herself to a rehab clinic in Malibu, and in the following months was spotted with increasingly horrifying weaves. She hasn’t been spotted bald since.

One feature of Kevin Costner that’s not Untouchable: his hair. The 54-year-old actor looked noticeably different from 2006 to 2008—perhaps he felt a transplant was necessary to keep up with his much-younger new wife, German model Christine Baumgartner?

Transplant? Plugs? Spray-on hair? No one can tell, but something mysterious has been going on with John Travolta’s hairline for years. Although he appears to have a receding pate, his manly tresses have been spotted looking alternately very long and dense or close-cropped and nearly nailed on.

Who can blame Beyoncé for wearing a different weave every week? Her mother said that the singer’s hair was so damaged by frequent dye jobs and she now wears hair extensions in nearly every style—occasionally, though, even Jay-Z’s wife has a bad hair day, and her lace front weave becomes noticeable at the front of her hairline. See, even Dreamgirls aren’t perfect…

He sported a lustrous head of hair during his feature film debut in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but unfortunately for 45-year-old Nic Cage, the hairline has been far uphill from there. Many believe he has a toupee—but really, would anyone pay for something that looked so bad? His latest hair faux pas came during his role last year headlining Bangkok Dangerous. Note to Cage: If you’re going bald, longer is never, ever better.

The Entourage star’s hair looks full and boyish these days—quite a long ways off from the beginning of his career, when he appeared to be heading down a path of baldness. Piven allegedly wears toupees to counteract his receding hairline, and the look seems to work for the actor—the lower his hairline is, the higher his star seems to rise.

Keeping up appearances is clearly crucial for the British-born model, but lately her hairline has been looking less than runway-ready. During a visit to New York last year, Campbell was spotted with “weave cleavage”—a bald spot at the hairline caused from braids and weaves being pulled too tight.

During his murder trial, no one believed the record producer’s beehive nest of hair was the real deal, but his frequent appearances—and varying wigs—made the drawn-out courtroom scenes even more compelling. Remember the days of the blond Clay Aiken-esque pageboy and the shaggy brown mop? The world finally got their answer of what lies beneath those follicle debacles—his mugshot released this year reveals Spector long ago lost those lovin’ locks.

Sam Malone always had the best hair on Cheers (sorry, Cliff) but Ted Danson’s not wholly responsible for his follicular success. For years, he has admitted to wearing a toupee, and even poked fun of himself in one of the final episodes of Cheers, admitting to Rhea Perlman’s Carla: “I’m not perfect” before taking off his self-proclaimed “hair replacement system.”

Poor Gene—even his children make fun of the rock god’s now-tragic hairstyle. The KISS frontman used to have a long mane that complemented his makeup perfectly. But in the last few years, when his reality TV show Gene Simmons Family Jewels debuted, his son Nick claimed his dad’s hair “kinda looks like a German military helmet,” and his daughter chimed in: “He’ll work out, but the hair doesn’t sweat.” Even Gene said, “Everybody thinks it’s a wig.”
