We’ve all been spending more time in the kitchen recently, and at this point, it’s kind of getting annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy cooking, but I’m always looking for things to improve the experience. With that being said, I don’t want too many things lying around. If you’ve gone onto Amazon and looked for a kitchen gadget, you’ve probably ordered one from OXO without even realizing it. The brand has some of the best-selling and top-rated kitchen products out there and for good reason: they look and work great. Now’s an excellent time to give your kitchen gadget collection an overhaul, and there’s no better place to start than with these essential OXO items.
If at this point, you’re still storing the pantry staples you use every day in the boxes they came in, you’re missing out. These containers keep your pasta, beans, spices, and more as fresh as can be once unsealed.
This is the only spatula you’ll ever need. "While this does excel at flipping fish due to its extra long stainless steel head, it can also be used for every task that requires a spatula, like cooking eggs, hamburgers, pancakes and will do a better job of it, too. Its non-stick, easy-to-clean head has an all-important beveled edge, so it can easily slip under absolutely anything. And since it has an extra-large handle, your grip won’t slip either. If you’re frying something up, the slots allow the spatula to function like a slotted spoon, and if you end up with crusty morsels on the bottom of your pots and pans, the sharp edge of the spatula makes it the best scraper around."
Why do I like this cocktail shaker so much? "While the three-part cocktail shaker design, which includes a built-in strainer, has been around for ages, OXO found a way to improve it. Like a high-end water bottle or coffee cup, the shaker has a double wall that keeps drinks super cool, but also allows you to hold it without freezing your hand. It has an 18-ounce capacity, which is more than enough room to make several drinks at one time."
Scouted Editor Jillian Lucas thinks these measuring cups are better than the rest. She writes, "Looking at these measuring cups, you can immediately tell how different they are from your classic Pyrex options. There are no handles, which can very easily get caught on the cords of kitchen appliances and can, and all too often, does lead to you hunched over your kitchen floor wearing a headlamp, picking up pieces of glass with duct tape (it was a long night). Instead, these silicone cups are squeezable, which makes holding and pouring liquid incredibly easy. They’re also great for thicker liquids, like honey or molasses or drizzling chocolate, which makes them ideal baking equipment."
If you chop a lot of veggies, you should own a bench scraper. This one also doubles as a chopper to help section dough or crusts, cut butter, and more. It’ll help you get every last bit of your mise en place.
This advanced coffee maker will brew you a perfect cup every time. You can control the brew cycle, water temperature, and more. The LED screen lets you know how fresh your coffee is and the dial allows you to start a timer and control how big of a pot you’re brewing.
Scouted Contributor Morgan Thompson thinks this cutting board is a cut above the rest. He writes, “Both sides are secured by non-slip, plastic feet to ensure that the cutting board won’t move an inch no matter how hard you smash a clove of garlic or tenderize a chicken breast. But that’s not OXO’s only addition to their take on a classic cutting board. Because of its lightweight, durable, plastic design, I can easily pick up the board to move to the sink or the stove to rinse mushrooms or add a diced onion to a sauté.”
Cleaning and maintaining cast iron is one of those things that’s actually a lot easier than you would think. This handy tool has short, stiff bristles to clean cooked-on foods, angled brushes for deeper cleaning, and a scraper tip to get into corners and grooves.
While this mandoline may not look like anything special, you should trust Scouted Contributor Rachel Dube: “It is.” She writes, “The three different thicknesses allow me to cut my vegetables from paper-thin to just the right thickness without injuring myself due to the non-slip handle, knob, and foot. When using it, I usually hook it directly onto a bowl and slice right over it, but I’ve used it directly on a cutting board and plate too. The window within the mandoline shows what you're slicing below, so you can easily see if your produce is the way you want it.”
A convertible dish rack is your best friend when you don’t have a dishwasher. This one is big enough to house large mixing bowls and cookware but also has tines to hold up wine glasses and mugs.
I’m very passionate about these tongs. "They are 12 inches long which is the length you want them, trust me, but they also have silicone scalloped heads, making them easier to clean and making picking up anything you need as easy as can be."
It’s probably not true, but to me, this is the original OXO product. It solves a big problem: washing and drying lettuce is the most annoying kitchen task, but also one of the most necessary. But it also is easy to use, and better yet, easy to clean.
