Sarah Silverman is speaking out for the first time about the end of her Hulu series, I Love You, America, in the premiere episode of The Daily Beast’s new comedy interview podcast, The Last Laugh. The comedian says that while Hulu “did love the show,” the executives there didn’t “have any connection” to it and therefore it was easy for them to cancel it after just 21 episodes. “And it is just so heartbreaking,” she adds, “because I kind of feel cut off at the knees.”
In addition to expressing her frustrations with how that streaming service treated her over the past year, Silverman also discusses her thoughts about the 2020 Democratic primary field and her complicated feelings about the fate of her friend, former Senator Al Franken. “I can only just be honest and say, if I didn’t know Al Franken, I’d probably be like yeah, go girl, me too, fuck that shit,” Silverman tells host Matt Wilstein. “Because I do know him, I don’t feel that way.”
