The Many Faces of Margiela

Ghost Face

The house's out-there couture collection, which debuted on Wednesday in Paris, featured beaded face masks that would make breathing (or eating or talking) pretty difficult.

Kanye would be proud: Maison Martin Margiela debuted a series of of its now-signature beaded face masks at its FW 13/14 couture show in Paris on Wednesday. They came in every variety: covered in colored bulbs, a bib with crystals (which a model wore with nothing underneath), and a mask with what appeared to be black paint spilling down the top. The collection featured floral applique jackets, embroidered dresses and -- perhaps most surprising for a couture collection -- second-hand jeans paired with latex boots. As one person tweeted: "Dying to know if @Margiela castings = models w/ paper bags over their heads?"
