As an avid drinking of hot beverages, my vast collection of mugs (yes, I have a collection) is something that brings me immense joy. Each one brings out a certain personality, from serious, to playful, to inquisitive, and I know I'm not alone.
Feeling warm and toasty in a time that feels tumultuous and on the cusp of despair is a small gift to yourself. Enjoying that feeling with a good mug (and a feel-good book) is honestly one of the best ways to wind down after the day. While yes, a lot of it does depend on what's inside the mug, having a crappy drinking vessel will easily diminish the enjoyment of a beverage. You don't want a mug that gets cold too easily (or retains too much heat), or is uncomfortable to hold. There are a lot of variables out there.
This is the best mug I own by a mile and a half. It’s handmade and if it’s in stock, I recommend adding it to your cart ASAP. The handle and lip couldn’t be more perfect, and it’s just beautiful to look at, too. In short, it’s everything you want in a mug, minus the kitschy catchphrase.
Self heating you say? This ceramic mug comes complete with a heated base (that also magically charges your phone) plus a ceramic lid to keep your hot beverages nice and steamy.
These aren’t technically mugs, but they will replace all of the mugs you own, according to Scouted Contributor Jessica Booth. They are made of “really well insulated glass” so not only do they “keep coffee hot for a while,” but the “outside remains cool to the touch.” There is some sort of magic going on with these cups.
If you’re worried about your coffee (or tea) getting cold before you can get to it, the Ember mug may just be for you. Scouted Contributor John Brandon reviewed the travel version and said “he drank every drop of coffee.” The technology allows you to control the heat of the contents inside the cup, and the charger is even a warming pad. In short, you’ll never have cold coffee again (unless you like iced coffee and then you can have that, too).
If you're all about getting to the point of drinking coffee and not fussing with multiple cups, why not get a brewing system that goes directly into the mug? This set comes complete with a pour-over drip brewer and a double walled glass that's made to set underneath. It's not technically a mug, but it was made to drink hot liquid from and I think that's close enough.
For a lower tech and lower priced option, the Miir Camp cup is a great choice. It has double walled insulation, like your favorite water bottle, that helps keep drinks hotter (or colder) for longer periods of time. There’s a lid so you can bring it on the go, but you might just want to leave it at your desk. It’ll be your new go-to mug in no time.
